If you were ambling your way through South Belfast yesterday you would have witnessed a gigantic electricity failure across half the city. Offices, shops, restaurants were plunged into darkness. Cars had to carefully navigate unlit traffic lights at t-junctions and crossroads. Over 25,000 customers were affected.
It was a great to-failure test for us here at Cloudsmith HQ. It's good news; as the lights went out so did our desktops. However, our UPS saved our router and it's connection to the outside world... at least until Alan accidentally pulled the plug while trying to reconfigure the power leads to the switch (to keep our Wi-Fi access alive also).
Our entire infrastructure is sitting on AWS; so despite the massive loss of electricity across half a city there was zero disruption to Cloudsmith. Yay!
